Cairo, Egypt – 01 October 2019 - ALEXBANK’s continuous commitment to corporate social responsibility led to the signature of a cooperation protocol with Magdi Yacoub Foundation (MYF), meant to sponsor an echocardiography room at the New Heart Centre in Cairo. This in support of fighting cardiovascular diseases which are considered the highest cause of death for non-communicable diseases, resulting in 1.5 million deaths annually across the African continent.
The protocol was signed in Aswan by Dante Campioni, Managing Director & CEO of ALEXBANK and Dina El-Gazzar, Vice President for Development and Fundraising at Magdi Yacoub Foundation (MYF), in the attendance of Sir. Magdi Yacoub, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aswan Heart Center (AHC) and Cardiac Surgeon, Marwa Said, Executive Director of the Magdi Yacoub Foundation and Laila Hosni, Head of CSR and Sustainable Development Office at ALEXBANK. The protocol includes the establishment of an echocardiography room worth EGP 6mln to serve more than 12,000 patients annually, out of 80,000 patients accommodated annually by the center. The cooperation project between ALEXBANK and Magdi Yacoub Foundation will be completed in a period of 3 years.

Campioni added “Magdi Yacoub Foundation plans to perform 12,000 therapeutic surgeries annually at the new center, out of which 4,000 open heart surgeries will be performed annually, while 60% of the therapeutic surgeries will be performed on children. For this, it is essential that also the private sector participates in supporting Aswan Heart Center and other NGOs active in the healthcare sector, contributing to support Egypt’s underprivileged population in accessing the most advanced medical treatments.”

Laila Hosni, Head of CSR and Sustainable Development Office at ALEXBANK added that “It is expected that the new heart center will include 5 echocardiography rooms and that we have been keen to provide the necessary financial support to sponsor one of these rooms and the latest medical devices, helping with the highest medical care and standards for patients.”
